NSW: Ban on classic song may be reviewed
SYDNEY, Aug 9 AAP - Ansett management is meeting today to review SOCOG's banning of
the song "I Still Call Australia Home" from Olympic torch relay celebrations.
Singer Dallas Watts and a four-piece jazz band have been told by torch relay organisers
not to sing the late Peter Allen classic because of its strong connection with Qantas,
which might offend Games sponsor Ansett.
The performers planned to sing the song when the torch passed through the town of Parkes,
in central west New South Wales on August 18.
Torch relay general manager Di Henry told ABC radio today she would be holding discussions
with Ansett officials.
"We will have a chat to them and see what we can organise," she said.
An Ansett spokesman said: "They (Ansett officials) are in a meeting discussing it now.
